National Nutrition Council Western Visayas had its kick-off ceremony of Nutrition Month 2016 in Jordan, Guimaras last July 5, 2016.
This year, the campaign focuses on good maternal nutrition and proper infant and young child feeding practices, thus the theme “First 1000 Days ni baby pahalagahan para sa malusog na kinabukasan”.
“Shape the world by giving proper nutrition to our children during the First 1000 Days.” Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Nona Tad-y said
during her speech in the launching program which was attended by Gov. Samuel Gumarin, Mayor Ruben Corpuz and other local officials of Jordan, Guimaras, members of Regional Nutrition Technical Committee, Barangay Nutrition Scholars, Barangay Health Workers and, pregnant and lactating mothers of babies up to 2 years of age.
The program started with a short parade in front of the municipal hall of Jordan, Guimaras followed by the Nutrition Month Celebration Program and a Nutrition Month Fair where a wide variety of fruits, vegetables and other local products were sold. The activity ended with a Cooking Demonstration of Complementary Foods using Insumix and vegetables as the main ingredients where mothers were invited to observe. The mothers fed their infants with the finished products as RNPC Nona Tad-y explained the importance of age-appropriate complementary feeding as one of the major components of the First 1000 Days.
