With so much drastically changing our world in the past several weeks, both negative and positive results have occurred. The “new normal” is the new way of life after the lifting of ECQ. Where we still need to practice social distancing and make other behavioral changes. World leaders and scientists are still advising the public to stay at home unless it's absolutely necessary.
Being at home can lead to some unhealthy nutritional behaviors, including binge and overeating due to stress and boredom. Turning to comfort food is natural but, as many are witnessing, this brings another set of challenges such as possible weight gain and lack of fitness. Frequent overeating can lead to overweight and other Non-Communicable Diseases.
Here are some ways to avoid binge and overeating:
1. Keep a Food Diary that will indicate tendency to binge or over-eat.
2. Avoid keeping tempting foods within eyesight like a jar of cookies or a bowl of candies, chips and other knick-knacks.
3. Maintain a healthy meal schedule. Don’t change the normal eating schedule just because you are at home.
4. Don’t deprive your body of food. It is one of the most important nutrition rules to follow to prevent overeating or binge eating.
5. Prepare home-cooked meal. You learn new good things when you are at home.
6. Planning meals a few days ahead can help you manage time and to think of more healthy and nutritious recipes.
Good health begins with good nutrition and good nutrition starts with a diet that provides the necessary levels of energy and essential nutrients.
