Almost 60 government agencies based in Iloilo and Negros Occidental including the National Nutrition Council (NNC), Region VI joined the 15th Ombudsman Caravan of Government Services (CGS) in Toboso, Negros Occ. last August 18, 2015.
Yearly, the Office of the Ombudsman conducts Caravan of Government Services in different depressed municipalities in the region and NNC, RVI supports and participates the said event. This is a good venue for NNC to extend its advocacy campaign along Promotion of Good Nutrition especially to far flung and nutritionally depressed areas.
Considering that Toboso is top 5 Nutritionally Depressed Municipality (NDM) in the Region according to prevalence rate of undernutrition among pre-school children (OPT Plus Results 2014), NNC, RVI strengthens the campaign through distribution of NIEC materials which include 10 Kumainments flyers, leaflets on Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos in Hiligaynon and the Nutritionally Adequate One-Day Menu with corresponding age groups (Adults, children, Pregnant & Lactating women). Recipients were advised to read and understand the given nutrition campaign materials and to share it with others. The one-day menu guides were given to people with corresponding age groups and instructed to follow the guide and nutrition tips for their own benefit. The Mang Moi and NNC, RVI roll-up standees were also on display to promote the 10 Kumainments.
More than 200 people in Toboso received the NIEC materials. Mothers, pregnant women, men, old and young adults and school teachers were among the recipients. Teachers from different schools said that they could make use of these materials for teaching their students.
NNC, RVI will continue to join the CGS on the upcoming years to reach out the services direct to the people.
