NutriTalk2020

“Nutri Talk-Iloilo,” a panel discussion on various nutrition and health-related topics has come up with its latest editions on how people can protect themselves and remain healthy with healthy diets as pandemic has limited movements of people including delivery of health and nutrition services.

In the editions aired over channel 32 of Sky Cable several times a day, National Nutrition Council VI Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Nona B. Tad-y, said that the latest (September) Social Weather Station revealed that over 30 percent of Filipinos experienced moderate hunger in the past three months.

“This can be alarming,” Tad-y said, adding that it is important for local government units to look into food and nutrition security of their constituents especially the vulnerable ones- nutritionally-at-risk pregnant women, 0-23 months old children and the elderly.

NNC said that healthy diets of fruits and vegetables coupled with physical activities even just in the homes should be undertaken.

The community or households can work together to grow short-term vegetables and herbs that can be used for cooking.

The council also said that LGUs can look into priority spending focused on nutrition and health as among the best ways to battle COVID-19.

Joining Ms. Tad-y were Nutrition Officer III Sheryl Sedantes, Nutrition Officer I Romela Candoliza and ECCD-F1K Coordinator Heda Suing.
