ro6 bacolodcity sealMore than 200 barangay nutrition scholars, health workers, child development workers and mother volunteers participated in a five-day training on the promotion of good nutrition at the Don Bosco Retreat House in Bacolod City. This was conducted in August 2011 and was spearheaded by the Urban Services Division, in coordination with the National Nutrition Council under the Accelerated Hunger Mitigation Program (AHMP).

The training was aimed at equipping participants with the knowledge and skills in promoting good nutrition, particularly on exclusive breastfeeding through the Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) counseling, the use of "Pabasa sa Nutrisyon"  strategy and promote consumption of eggs and vegetables. Participants were also informed on the Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos, which are primary recommendations to promote good health through proper nutrition.

City nutrition action officer Ma. Teresa Galon said the training will be conducted in batches scheduled to be finished before the year ends.

The AHMP is a program of the national government which aims to address hunger and malnutrition in the country. (Daily Guardian)
