It is recognized that the media has a massive role to play in raising awareness and communicating messages around good Nutrition and healthy diets to the masses. Also, in conducting advocacy efforts to ensure that Nutrition remains high on the political agenda and that the right policies, governance structures, and actions are put in place to foster accountability across stakeholders.
Nowadays, the media is one vital source of scientific information to the general public. Media is the plural form of medium, which (broadly speaking) describes any channel of communication. It can include anything from printed paper to digital data, and encompasses art, news, educational content, and numerous other forms of information. Some of these modern forms of media, such as the Internet or social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) have completely revolutionized our world.
Quality journalism informs citizens about issues that affect them, holds institutions accountable, and contributes to peace and democracy by providing a voice to all. The media has the potential to boost the efforts of stakeholders by reporting valuable and fruitful collaborations as well as plans to increase media engagement.
To establish rapport among media partners, to lay out plans and activities for Social Behavioural Communication Change (SBCC), and discuss ways to strengthen partnerships, NNC Region VI conducted a meeting with the Western Visayas Nutri-Media Circle (WV NMC) on 3 August 2021 via an online platform.
Part of the agendum was the election of a new set of officers. Ms. Elena "Bing" Pabiona of Radyo Pilipinas Iloilo was re-elected as the President of the Western Visayas Nutri-Media Circle while Ms. Victoria Casela of Radyo Bandera was elected the Vice-President.The participants of the meeting also shared their commitments to strengthen the nutrition information in the region. In attendance are the NNC Region VI staff, NNC Media Partners, and NutriSkwela Community Radio Stations.
Together, quality journalism and critical audiences in a free society form the foundation of a healthy information environment that can help the world deal with these challenges of our times.
