Sagay LNEWS Monitoring

Sagay City, Negros Occidental - The National Nutrition Council Region VI continues to support all LNEWS-FNS areas in the region through providing technical assistance and monitoring. LNEWS-FNS is an essential program and tool in identifying causes of malnutrition and vulnerable people. NNC ROVI conducted online monitoring of the said program in Sagay City, Negros Occidental. The meeting attended by the LNEWS-FNS Core Group:  Maryvisie Tajanlangit- City Nutrition Action Officer, Eufemia Parcon- CNC Staff, and Julie Delima-Head of City Agriculture Office of Sagay City.

 

The results of the conducted monitoring show an increase in the price of the following commodities: squash, rice, chicken, and pork.

It also shows that there is less consumption of root crops and tubers. The result also showed a small percentage (20.5%- below average) of mothers who do exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) in the sentinel barangays and a significant number of wasted children.

The agreements on this online meeting are reactivating/ identify support groups focusing on IYCF (promotion of exclusive breastfeeding etc.), continuously locating vacant lots for Tutok Kainan garden, and provide a soft copy of LNEWS-FNS resolution to the NNC ROVI.//Romela Dee Candoliza, Nutrition Officer I
