ro6 NGF hiligaynonThe National Nutrition Council (NNC) Region VI in cooperation with the other member agencies conducted a 2-day Workshop on Translation of Revised Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos (NGF) on 24-25 July 2013 at Punta Villa Resort, Arevalo, Iloilo City.

The workshop aims to popularize the messages contained in the Revised NGF for behavioural impact. Specifically, the workshop aims to (1) translate the NGF in the local dialect (Hiligaynon) to ensure better understanding, appreciation, and application of NGF by the Illongos; (2) formulate the Regional Communication Plan for Regional Promotion of Translated NGF for widest implementation and dissemination; (3) and mobilize stakeholders in support of Translated NGF.

The NNC invited translators from different sectors including Ms. Renarda Gaviola, TRO III, Provincial Capitol, Ms. Elena Pabiona, BPP, Radyo ng Bayan, Ms. Melanie Ferrer, Radio Announcer, GMA Iloilo, Ms. Ime Sornito, Reporter/Writer, Hublas Newspaper, Ms. Paula Huelar, SSRS, DOST R6, and Ms. Remedios Husca, URA I, UPV BIDANI.

Each 10 messages were carefully analyzed and translated through focus-group discussion and brainstorming of translators. They got a hard time on translation since there were too technical terms which cannot be directly translated into the dialect. The rationale of each messages were also translated since it was agreed that the NNC will reproduce a booklet containing Translated NGF. This is to ensure better understanding of the general public and to ensure widest dissemination and use of the Translated NGF.

The draft of translated NGF will be pre-tested by RTWG by means of different respondents and their response will be evaluated by the consultants as basis for final Translated NGF.
