ro6 nnc 2013 Files nutritional-congressThe yearly celebration of Nutrition Congress (NC) was conducted last December 4, 2012 at Punta Villa Resort led by the National Nutrition Council (NNC) Region VI, in cooperation with the Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) and Regional Nutrition Technical Committee (RNTC).

The one day event has been evocative with almost 300 participants consisting of multi-level Nutrition Committee Members and other nutrition advocates from different provinces and cities in the region. The NC started with the Welcome Message given by Regional Executive Director Larry P. Nacionales of Department of Agriculture (DA). He emphasized the value in minimizing wastage of rice to address hunger problem. The Keynote Message was delivered by Dr. Emilia Monicimpo, Assistant Regional Director of the Department of Health (DOH) on the topic, “The Role of Nutrition in Achieving Millennium Development Goals of Reducing Maternal and Child Mortality Rates”. The induction of Western Visayas Nutri-Media Circle (WVNMC) officers and members by Dr. Monicimpo as inducting officer followed.

For Nutrition Updates, Ms. Elena C. Pabiona, BPP, A II of Radyo ng Bayan, President of WVNMC talked on the topic “The Role of Media in the Promotion of Good Nutrition”, highlighting that media should take part on the Promotion of Good Nutrition. Ms. Nona B. Tad-y, Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator, NNC Region VI discussed topics on “Updates on the National Nutrition Situation” and “Why is Height Measurement Important in Nutrition Assessment”. The presentation on “Maternal and Young Child Nutrition Security Initiative in Asia (MYCNSIA)” was presented by Dr. Anthony Redaniel.

The most awaited part of the program was the Recognition and Awarding Ceremony wherein BNS Cherill E. Reyes of Dongon West, Numancia, Aklan was awarded as the 2011 Outstanding BNS in the Region with a Plaque of Recognition and cash award of Twelve Thousand Pesos. After which she gave her response. The Municipality of Jordan, Guimaras garnered the award as 2011 Outstanding Municipality in the Region Green Banner Award, also as the Outstanding Municipality in the province. Other awardees include Lezo, Aklan and Bugasong, Antique as Outstanding Municipality of their respective provinces.
The occasion recognized the shared efforts of BNSs, LGUs, and other nutrition advocates towards a more efficient and effective governance in the Promotion of Good Nutrition in the region.
