2022 World Obesity Day Streamer

Malnutrition rates may increase after the pandemic. Among adults, more are expected to become overweight or obese because of binge eating and reduced physical activity while under the community quarantine.

Reports also show an increase in number of women getting pregnant during the lock down period. The challenge now is to ensure their health and nutrition.

The pandemic and the resulting home quarantine has changed the eating patterns of most people. Mothers who are now working from home became more focused on the meals that they cook for the family. Additionally, gardening skills were harnessed in cultivating vegetables at home because of the restrictions in buying food. And creativity and resourcefulness were fostered especially in transforming relief food items into nutritious recipes.

Overeating or binge eating was a more likely scenario which can result to weight gain especially if the food items at home or the food delivery choices are high in fat, sugar, or calories.

To stay fit and healthy, it is important to be mindful not just of what you do but also of what you eat. Control your cravings and do not make eating as a means of relieving stress or of passing time. Drink plenty of water to keep you hydrated. Eat within your recommended caloric requirements. Also, eat fruits and vegetables that are high in fiber. A good example is singkamas (jicama) which is high in fiber and water that could increase your feeling of fullness and thus control your food intake. Eating bananas also improve satiety.

Another tip is to fill your kitchen or pantry with healthy food options. Avoid keeping chips and unhealthy food
