Project MAL at Miag ao Iloilo

NNC Region VI has been invited by the Project Team, composed of public health students from UP Miag-ao, to be part of Project MAL. Project MAL: Mama, Anak, at Lipunan Kontra Malnutrisyon is a health education and promotion project plan aimed to improve the child nutrition programs in Barangay Guibongan, Miagao, Iloilo.

During the 6-part lecture workshop on nutrition for mothers and children Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator, Mr. Reginaldo T. Guillen introduced the Background of the National Nutrition Council and discussed an Overview of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition on April 18, 2022.

On April 22, 2022 Nutrition Officer III Sheryl C. Sedantes discussed the topic "Kaayuhan kag Kapagsik sang Kabuhi" 10 kumainments and Pinggang Pinoy. This aims to equip mothers and children with knowledge of proper nutrition. The 10 Kumainments are simple and easy to remember guidelines that can be easily followed by ordinary citizens to improve their nutritional status. While the Pinggang Pinoy is a translation of recommended energy and nutrients into food recommendations on food intake.

Topics on the importance of the First 1000 Days, Benefits of Breastfeeding, and Ensuring proper Complementary Feeding were presented on 29 April 2022 by Nutrition Officer I Romela Dee Candoliza and PNFP of Iloilo Heda V. Suing. To further give information on Ensuring Good Nutrition during the times of Pandemic, Nutrition Officer I Nelin Jean Emboltura and Roselle Eve Ferrer discussed the topic on May 4, 2022.

Project MAL believes that “ang MALigaya at MALusog na bata ay MALayo and mararating”. Team HaMAL is composed of BS in Public Health IV students from the University of Philippines Visayas. Public Health is one of the degree programs offered at the university, which seeks to prevent diseases, prolong life, and promote human health through organized efforts and informed choices of society, organizations, public and private, communities and individuals.
