The National Nutrition Council Region VI provided various nutrition and nutrition-related technical assistance to the Province of Iloilo. Iloilo Province belongs to the (38) Thirty-eight PPAN 2017-2022 Priority Areas, these priority areas have a greater magnitude of stunting and wasting and are prioritized for mobilization of local government units. Mobilization will aim to transform low-intensity nutrition programs into those that will deliver targeted outcomes; this strategy is also expected to complement the interventions in the First 1000 Days.
On April 20, 22, and 29, 2022 NNC RVI participated in the Nutrition in Emergency response conducted by the Iloilo Provincial Nutrition Committee. This is also in partnership with the Department of Health Region VI and Waffle Time Inc. Services such as Anthropometric Assessment (MUAC), Vit. A Supplementation, provision of hot meals with nutritious bread, MINGO, Micronutrient Powder (MNP), and nutrition counseling were provided to children, lactating, pregnant mothers, and the elderly. Financial assistance for the affected BNSes collected from a monetary donation was also given. The municipalities of Ajuy, Lemery, and Balasan affected by the typhoon Agaton were the beneficiaries of the activity. NNC commends the prompt action of the Provincial Government of Iloilo through its PHO and Provincial Nutrition Committee. In connection with this, NNC calls on LGUs to ensure the activation of their respective nutrition clusters to ensure appropriate preparedness, timely response, and effective recovery, in times of disaster and to ensure that the nutrition of both children and mothers is monitored while families are temporarily housed in evacuation centers.
May 19, 2022 - NNC Region VI provided technical assistance to the BNSs and BHWs of Maasin, Iloilo through the training on Basic Concepts on Food and Nutrition and Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF). Iloilo PNFP Heda V. Suing served as a resource person during the activity, she discussed the topics regarding Food and Nutrition Guidelines, Proper Feeding Practices, and Consequences of Malnutrition. This is to assure that correct information is relayed to the mothers and caregivers during the nutrition education program during their house-to-house visits.
May 26, 2022 - National Nutrition Council Region VI provided technical assistance to the Province of Iloilo by sharing updates on BNS Program during the BNS Coordinators Meeting held at Goldberry Hotel, Iloilo City. Nutrition Officer I Romela Dee Candoliza served as resource person during the activity, she discussed the BNS program including the background, function, and benefits of BNSes. This is to encourage and inform new nutrition program coordinators to facilitate the documents of BNS in requesting traveling allowance, and medical and survivorship assistance. She also highlighted the importance of timely submitting the documents to avoid delayed release of checks.
