May 18, 2022 - The FAO Programme Unit Officer Ms. Carlie Labaria had a meeting with RNPC Reginaldo T. Guillen and NO III Sheryl C. Sedantes to discuss the BMU-IKI Regional Project "Fishing for Climate Change"
The project "Fishing for Climate Change" is supported by Germany's International Climate Initiative or IKI. Through this initiative, Rare and its partners are empowering small-scale fishing communities in the Asia Pacific region to adapt to climate change through Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) approaches. It is implemented across five countries: the Philippines, Indonesia, Federated States of Micronesia, Palau, and the Marshal Islands.
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is the implementing partner for the Philippines. The project will be assisting the small-scale fishery sector to align with sustainable natural resource management through the Fishery Management Areas (FMA) governance approach, and local climate change plans to protect ecosystem integrity, and fisheries livelihoods, and complement it with FAO's expertise on climate change adaptation and "Voluntarily Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-scale Fisheries in the Context of Food Security and Poverty Eradication"
The project is implemented at the national and sub-national levels with a focus on the municipalities of Libertad, Culasi, Pandan, and Sebaste in the province of Antique and the municipalities of Poro, San Francisco, Pilar, and Tudela of the Camotes Islands in the Province of Cebu.
