The Bacolod City Nutrition Committee conducted a Local Nutrition Action Plan Workshop on July 18 – 20, 2022 at the Masskara Hall, New Government Center, Bacolod City. Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Reginaldo T. Guillen and Nutrition Officer III Sheryl C. Sedantes of National Nutrition Council Region VI served as the resource persons in the workshop.
The Local Nutrition Action Plan (LNAP) is a three-year plan containing the objectives and interventions that will be implemented to address the malnutrition problem at the provincial, municipal, city or barangay level. The LNAP (P/C/M/BNAP) operationalizes the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition 2017-2022 and Regional Plan of Action for Nutrition (RPAN) at the local level; it is prepared by the respective nutrition committees and should be an integral part of local development plans.
During the workshop the compelling reasons in Investing in Nutrition was discussed such as Alarming nutrition problem, Embarrassment for a middle income country Cost of malnutrition to the economy, Negative impact of malnutrition on development, Returns to investment in nutrition very high, Intervention to address malnutrition exists, and Nutrition is a child right and an integral part of the UN SDGs and PDP. Supportive policies for LGUs to invest in nutrition exist.
The NNC RVI aims that the Bacolod City Nutrition Committee would be able to formulate a local nutrition action plans that are integrated in the comprehensive development plan, and the local development investment plan. A mobilized local chief executives or those who appreciate the importance of investing in nutrition programs, and provide leadership in nutrition action is also expected by the end of the workshop.
