Cebu City- Walking their talk, the Department of Health Region 7 officials and employees shape up to become the epitome of healthy lifestyle and good nutrition in the Bellyliscious or the Biggest Loser activity. This is a series of activities designed for those at-risk for non-communicable diseases (NCD) such as hypertension, cardiovascular diseases and diet-related cancers.
NNC 7’s Registered Nutritionist-Dietitians, NO I Nasudi G. Soluta and AA VI Ricarda M. Limocon conducted individualized nutrition counseling focusing on weight management for the twenty most at-risk employees of DOH – CHD 7. NOI Soluta and AA VI Limocon advocated positive behavior towards good nutrition and physical fitness. The counseling followed after the Bellyliscious Seminar where NO I Soluta was the resource person on the importance of good nutrition, weight management and the long-term effects of poor dietary choices. The seminar held on 01 April 2013 at the Narra Conference Room at the DOH-CHD 7 compound was attended by the general DOH-CHD 7 population headed by Regional Director and RNC Chair, Asuncion M. Anden.
The Bellyliscious or the Biggest Loser was launched recently with a Nutritional Status and Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Risk Assessment. The nutritional status of the employees was determined by measuring their weight and height using Body Mass Index and getting their Waist-Hip Ratio. The NCD high-risk assessment was done where each employee was assessed for a family history for hypertension, stroke, heart attack, diabetes, asthma, cancer and kidney disease; tobacco and alcohol intake; high fat and salt intake; dietary fiber and physical activity. Their blood pressure, cholesterol and random blood sugar were also determined. Regular exercise program is also pursued by DOH officials and employees. This is a bid to reduce the prevalence of overweight among DOH-CHD 7 employees.
Awarding of the Biggest Loser will be done on September. Prizes and surprises awaits participants who will lost the most number of weights. // NGS
