VSMMC logoCebu City – The Mother-Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (MBFHI) Teams of Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center started monitoring hospitals that have undergone the Lactation Management Education Trainings. The monitoring visits were conducted in collaboration with the different Centers for Health Development (CHD) nationwide.

The objectives of the visit include the conduct of rapid evaluation of the progress of the MBFHI implementation at the regional, provincial, city/municipal level; identify issues and problems that need to be addressed for the improvement of the MBFHI implementation and help the regional and local counterparts to review and adjust plans on how to improve the MBFHI practices in their hospitals/health facilities; agree for Regional MBFHI/IYCF coordinator monitoring and coaching visits; and agree on the next steps to ensure successful implementation of MBFHI through Certificate of Commitment (COC), sustain the COC and achieve the MBFHI accreditation process.

MBFHI monitors visited eighty-four (84) hospitals from March 4 to April 12, 2013. They went to 8 hospitals in NCR, 9 hospitals in CAR, 14 hospitals in Region I, 16 hospitals in Region IV A, 8 hospitals in Region IV – B, 15 hospitals in Region VI and 15 Hospitals in Region XIII.

During the monitoring and mentoring visit, the team together with the CHD coordinator reviewed the regional achievements in terms of MBFHI implementation; conducted rapid review with some mothers accessing the services of the hospital/health facilities; gave feedback result of the interview to health staff; discussed the next steps with the hospital/health facility staff and CHD coordinator and agreed for the next steps.

The team is set to visit the remaining 151 hospitals within the year. //DFB
