Toledo City – Region VII’s bet for the 1st Year Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) Maintenance Award, Toledo City was evaluated by the National Nutrition Evaluation Team last 19 to 21 March 2013. Toledo City gets the chance to keep the award for the second year if its nutrition status reaches a score of at least 90%.
The team was headed by Ms. Jasmine DF. Tandingan, Nutrition Officer II of NSD, NNC. Other members of the team were Ms. Azucena R. Banga of SPAP, Caritas-Manila and Mr. Benjamin Jose G. Bautista of SDS, NEDA evaluated the effectiveness and efficiency of the implementation of the nutrition program of the city and five randomly selected barangays.
Barangays visited during the evaluation included Don Andres Soriano, Biga, Bunga, Carmen and Dumlog. The team met and interviewed the Chair and members of the City Nutrition Committee and Barangay Nutrition Committee, validated the nutritional status by reweighing 10% of the total preschool children in each barangay visited, looked into the different projects initiated by the city and did a desk review of the records of the City Nutrition Committee.
NPC Parolita A. Mission welcomed the team during the courtesy call with Mayor Aurelio Aurelio P. Espinosa and CNC presentation of 2012 CNAP and accomplishments on 19 March and during the feedback conference on 21 March 2013. The National Evaluation Team was joined by NO II, Mr. Dave F. Bargamento as regional support of the team.
The CROWN award is given to an LGU with outstanding performance in nutrition program for three consecutive years in the region while the NHA is given to an LGU whose performance is exemplary for 3 consecutive years after winning the CROWN and has shown continued reduced prevalence of undernutrition both among preschool and school children. ///DFB
