ASec Flores guests at the newly launched community radio stationBarili, Cebu – From fishing to broadcasting, from farming to broadcasting -- until March 12, 2013, all that fishermen in Barili knew is to haul their nets and fishing rods. Likewise all that the farmers in Barili knew was to cultivate furrowed soil and all that municipal employees knew was to handle clerical jobs. Last March 10 to 12, 2013, thirty men and women completed the Hands-On Training on Community Radio Broadcasting for the Nutriskwela Community Radio Network Program. The training was held at the Cebu Technological University - Barili Campus in Barili, Cebu.

Among those who participated were representatives from the youth, senior citizens, women’s, farmers, fisherfolks, municipal employees and representatives from Cebu Technological University – Barili Campus. The training dovetailed the inauguration of the 97.5 Radyo Kahimsog, one of the Community Radio Network Programs in the country based in Cebu Technological University – Barili Campus. Participants were equipped with broadcasting skills for them to manage daily programming.

MQ Mediazone Production engaged the expertise of veteran broadcaster Mr. Mario C. Garcia; radio personalities, Mr. Francisco “Kiko” J. Flores and Mr. Danilo G. Gagelonia. NNC 7 Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator, as resource speakers for the training.

The Nutriskwela Community Radio Project is one of the solutions identified by NNC to address the problem of hunger and malnutrition in the Philippines in conjunction with current anti-hunger and anti-poverty programs of government.

The Nutriskwela Community Radio Network Program aims to empower the community through the dissemination of correct and up-to-date nutrition and health information, as well as educational and developmental information from sectors of the community, government agencies, and non-government organizations.

The three-day training tackled the different aspects of Community Radio Broadcasting from the Brief History of Radio Broadcasting, Basic Editing up to Equipment Maintenance and Basic Troubleshooting.///DFB
