Cebu City – For once, there was a bit of fresh images. Depicting animated images of breastfeeding, it was refreshing to have soulful images instead of misleading and aggressive themes. Animated images of promoting nutrition in vegetable and fruits boosted a refreshing intermission from the Tom and Jerry, anti-social themes of violence and vindication.

Each day, adults and children are helplessly bombarded, stimulated and at risk of media-related harm on television. Although images are animated cartoon characters, it is the subliminal messages and content that are harmful. The National Nutrition Council 7 has put its foot forward this time bringing nutritional content on TV. In its recent promotional collaterals, the council used animation in bringing the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding and what viewers need to know about nutrients in vegetables and fruits.

Friendly to both adults and children, the nutrition cartoon characters did not have to bang, shoot and pound on each other just this once. From mind-numbing images that has become the genre of television cartoons, the National Nutrition Council 7 turned the same medium into mind-nourishing.

The breastfeeding anime was aired in August in time for the Breastfeeding Month celebration. The fruit and vegetable animations were aired in September. These video animations were made possible through the efforts of the Media Information Network for Nutrition and Development 7 under the leadership of Mr. Jun P. Tagalog, MIND 7 President; Manager, DYLA and KBP Cebu Executive Vice President with the support from the National Nutrition Council.  // DFB
