Siquijor – Going the extra mile, NNC 7 intensified its technical assistance in Siquijor after it was found that children in the province has a high magnitude of underweight children 0 to 5 years old at 46.0 more than double the national and regional data at 20.2 and 21.6, respectively (2011 Updating of Nutritional Status, DOST-FNRI). The same survey also showed that wasting prevalence is critical and is considered as a public health problem with 23.0% higher than the national average. The situation of school children is also a challenge to nutrition program managers and implementers. The prevalence of underweight school children is also very high based on the WHO classification of magnitude and severity.
NO III Susan Y. Orpilla, RND and NO I Nasudi G. Soluta, RND visited three municipalities of the Siquijor last 13 February 2013. The team visited the municipalities of Siquijor, Larena and Enrique Villanueva.
During the visit, the monitors did a review of the nutrition program implementation focused on the conduct of the barangay-level PGN-IYCF trainings, WHO-CGS training, conduct of OPT Plus, functionality of barangay and municipal nutrition committees (MNCs) and capability development activities for Barangay Nutrition Scholars. They also had an audience with the MNCs to give feedbacks on the findings and advocate for further support to the nutrition program. //DFB
