Cebu City – Owing to the success of 2011 Nutrition Month celebration which highlighted breastfeeding, SM City Cebu ties up with NNC 7 for the August 2012 Breastfeeding Month celebration.
The month of August is designated as the National Breastfeeding Awareness Month. It is the time of the year where Breastfeeding is being highlighted and given focus. This year’s theme “Protect Breastfeeding! (Understanding the past, planning the future)”, a relevant reference to the lessons learned and the achievements over the past 20 years on infant and young child feeding (IYCF), is a call to action to bridge existing gaps in policies and programs supporting breastfeeding and IYCF and is also a call to protect, promote and support exclusive breastfeeding for first six months with timely introduction of adequate, safe and properly fed complementary foods in addition to guidance on continued breastfeeding for two years or beyond.
A myriad of events will be initiated on 22 August 2012 at SM City Cebu, NRA, Cebu City. This whole day activity would start with a Formal Opening of the Breastfeeding Photo Exhibition at the Mosaic Center in the morning, followed by a Press Conference. A Breastfeeding March would commence in the afternoon which will be participated in by breastfeeding mothers in the lower ground floor of SM City Cebu. This will be followed by a Breastfeeding Expo where fun lecture games will be done and services will be provided like nutrition education/counselling, blood sugar determination/diabetes screening, blood cholesterol determination, bone density testing, EKG taking and iron supplements among others.
The Breastfeeding Awareness Month celebration will be spearheaded by SM City Cebu, the National Nutrition Council 7 of the Department of Health thru the Regional Nutrition Committee and Cebu City Nutrition Committee. The event will also be participated in by the Phil. Obstetric and Gynecological Society Cebu Chapter, Phil. Pediatric Society Cebu Central and Eastern Visayas Chapter, Integrated Midwives Association of the Phil Cebu Chapter, Cebu Blood Donors Society, Phil. Association of Nutrition Cebu Chapter, Nutritionist-Dietitians Association of the Phil. Cebu Chapter and University of San Carlos. This activity is done to push further the cause of breastfeeding and increase awareness of the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding and appropriate complementary feeding. See you there! //DFB
