Danao/Cebu City, Cebu - “Central Visayas RNC shall strive to be the country’s nutrition showcase where individuals are food secure, nutritionally-empowered and healthy”. This is the vision of the Central Visayas Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) drafted by the RNC – Technical Working Group (TWG) during the Regional Nutrition Strategic Planning Workshop held on 26 – 27 January 2012 and approved by the Regional Nutrition Committee during its 1st RNC Full Committee Meeting Series 2012 held on 30 March 2012 at Club Ultima, Cebu City. The RNSP 2012-2016 is anchored in the Social Development Chapter of the Philippine Development Plan 2011-2016, the Millennium Development Goal 1 of Eradicating extreme poverty and hunger and the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition 2011 – 2016.
The Regional Nutrition Strategic Planning Workshop was undertaken to assess the nutrition situation of the region in terms ofprevailing nutritional problems and adequacy of on-going nutrition action and define the strategic plan of RNC to address the nutrition situation of the region. Done in Intosan Resort, Danao City, the 2 day workshop started with reviewing the current nutrition situation of Region VII including the other relevant health and related indicators. The MTPPAN 2006-2010 PIR results were also analysed to view the current nutrition landscape of Region 7. These exercises provided the basis in coming up with the vision, values, mission, overall goals, key result areas and budgetary requirements.
Present during the strategic planning-workshop were members of the RNC-TWG including Ms. Lyn N. Aguelo of DILG 7, Ms. Cheryl M. Dela Victoria of DA 7, Ms. Ma. Sostheleen C. Padilla of NEDA 7, Ms. Grace B. Espos of DepEd 7, Ms. Melinda D. Cañares of DSWD 7, Ms. Ligaya Moneva of DOH-CHD 7, Ms.Regina Salvador of PopCom 7, Ms. Florita G. Olandria of Mandaue City, Ms. Emma F. Seville of Cebu City, Ms. Delia E. Serion of Seamen’s Hospital/NDAP Cebu Chapter, Ms. Evangeline B. Geraldez of Miller Hospital/PAN Cebu Chapter. Also represented were the nutrition bodies in the region including Ms. Lourdes A. Taburaza, CNAO of Dumaguete City representing NAOPA Central Visayas, Ms. Julieta B. Manliguez, DNPC of Bohol Province and President of NPCAR 7 and Ms. Ma. Luisa G. Delantar, President of FeBaNUSA 7. NNC 7 led by RNPC Parolita A. Mission with Ms. Susan Y. Orpilla, Mr. Dave F. Bargamento, Ms. Eula Althea R. Mayol and Mr. Eduardo B. Baguio provided technical, administrative and secretariat support during the activity. The 2 day workshop was facilitated by Ms. Meylene C. Rosales of NEDA Region 8.
With this Strategic Plan, Central Visayas is one step forward in becoming a forerunner in nutrition in the country. // DFB
