Cebu -The National Nutrition Council (NNC) ties up with the Philippine Broadcasting Service (PBS) for Paaralang Panghimpapawid or Nutrition School On-Air. This was confirmed by Ms. Jovita Raval, Officer-In-Charge of Nutrition Information and Education Division, NNC during the PBS Annual Management Conference held on May 9-13, 2012 at the Tambuli Beach Resort, Lapu-lapu City.
During the conference, Raval oriented the PBS Managers onPAARALANG PANGHIMPAPAWID, a campaign for good nutrition where lessons on nutrition would be aired via PBS stations nationwide. Just like in school, the student-listeners will comply with four major activities: enrolment, monitoring and evaluation thru tests, review and graduation. Listeners’ enrolment can be done thru mail or sms to the radio stations, comply with the 20 lessons, answers the midterm and final examinations via mail or sms and attend the graduation rites. Each station shall designate and train broadcasters to serve as the “teacher” and use nutrition modules developed by NNC. Local nutrition committee thru the Barangay Nutrition Scholars and Barangay Health Workers will help in the project implementation.
“Actually, this is our 2ndMOA with the NNC, this is very good because our previous school-on-the-air was very successful and listeners keep asking when will be the school-on-the-air resumes,”said Mr. Allan Allanigue, Manager of DZRB Radyo ng Bayan during the interview.
“This is a big partnership between two government agencies merging to create a bigger and better campaign of nutrition information dissemination nationwide” he added.
As a media partner of NNC the PBS will help in the campaign for good nutrition to get the most immediate information with the agency and inform the public by airing them in all Radyo ng Bayan stations all over the country. PBS will also air radio plugs about nutrition, nutrition dramas, and announce the events of NNC and its nutrition network all over the country.
The weeklong event was hosted by DYMR Radyo ng Bayan Cebu City with a theme “Reviewing the Basics for a more creative and energized information dissemination”.
