Carmen, Cebu – From Bohol and now in Cebu, the National Nutrition Council 7 expand its Food and Nutrition Security - Early Warning System (FNS-EWS) area to the municipality of Carmen, Cebu as it conducts its stakeholders’ consultative workshop on 22-23 October 2015.
The FNS-EWS workshop aims to help the municipality which had been consistently in the top ten highest malnutrition incidence rate in the Province of Cebu with 16.25% in the 2014 OPT Plus results landing it as 4th in the region that year.
With a power team of resource persons to help the workshop participants understand more the importance of food security, good nutrition and the early warning system, NNC 7 invited Mr. Victor V. Generale of the Cebu Provincial Agriculture Office, Mr. Ernesto G. Villacorta of the Provincial Agriculture Statistic Office, Ms. Ionne Elena C. Villagonzalo of BFAR 7, and Mr. Alfredo F. Quiblat Jr. of PAG-ASA, Cebu.
The workshop conducted at the BFAR 7 Conference Hall, was attended in by 20 representatives from different municipal agencies such as health, agriculture, education, planning office, DRRM Office. It was also participated in by the two municipal Councilors particularly the Chairpersons, Committee on Agriculture and Health, the BNS federation president, and BHW federation president. It aimed to orient the members of the municipal nutrition committee on the EWS, its importance, factors affecting food security and to identify five (5) sentinel barangays.
NO III Susan Y. Orpilla and NO II Nasudi G. Soluta with ND I Hannah Lee C. Tolention of PNC, Cebu provided technical and administrative support in said activity. NPC Dr. Parolita A. Mission of NNC 7 graced the opening program together with the MNAO, Dr. Elmer Batao and other municipal officials. In her message, she challenged the MNC to create an efficient and effective FNS-EWS system for the municipality. //NGS
