eyecareTagbilaran City – With a line that started at six in the morning, it was obvious how excited many of the BNSs in attendance to the 2nd day of the 11th Regional BNS Congress were to learn that there was a free eye check-up booth in the Barangay Cogon Gymnasium, Tagbilaran City and rightly so, as many have missed the opportunity the first time.

Thwarted by Super typhoon Haiyan which came the same day as the first “Eye Care for You” activity for BNSs in 2013, only a few stragglers who were not able to go home due to the storm were catered to by the Kapwa Ko, Mahal Ko Foundation optical team.

Having identified optical services as one of the primary needs by BNSs, the congress organizers opted to conduct “Eye Care for You, Year 2” to provide opportunity to many of the BNSs who missed it in 2013. BNSs who deal with report writing, chart reading and weight and height measuring have often complained of eye problems and thus the eye care activity. Thanks to the Philippine Nurses Association Cebu Chapter, the BNSs happily brought home their pairs of eyeglasses ready to face the clerical work ahead.

The eye care service was only one of the activities lined up by the Federation of Barangay Nutrition Scholars’ Association 7 Inc. (FeBaNuSA 7 Inc.), organizers of the event, along with pneumonia vaccine shots after the Zumba session in the morning.

BNSs have untiringly served the their communities, sometimes abusing their bodies staying up late making reports, computing age-in months and many other things that strain their eyes, and the “Eye Care for You, Year 2” has helped more than two hundred BNSs see brighter and clearer.

Continuing to “serve the servers” is a challenge NNC 7 and the FeBaNuSA 7 Inc. must keep positively responding to. //NGS
