Samboan, Cebu – Along with its LGU nurturing campaign, the Municipality of Samboan in the province of Cebu becomes the first LGU to be attended to for this year as the National Nutrition Council 7 began its provision of intensive technical assistance to the municipality last 05 January 2016 at the Samboan Rural Health Unit.
NNC 7’s Nutrition Officer II Nasudi G. Soluta and Nutrition Officer I Julie Vannie B. Palaca conducted the said visit attended by the newly designated Municipal Health Officer and Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Dr. Ianne Jireh N. Ramos together with the health and nutrition workers of the municipality and some members of the Municipal Nutrition Committee (MNC).
The visit served as a venue for the members of the MNC to conduct a thorough analysis and understanding of the nutrition problem as well as identify necessary solutions including mapping of local resources particularly nutrition and health personnel given that the municipality ranked first in the prevalence of undernutrition and also in the top 10 of stunting and wasting stats in the region in 2015. The team also did a calibration of all the weighing scales of the municipality.
The “LGU Nurturing” is a campaign of the National Nutrition Council aiming to put a dent in the malnutrition situation of Central Visayas. This campaign enables the regional office, select members of the Regional Nutrition Committee-Technical Working Group and the local government to discuss local nutrition situation, share relevant nutrition and related policies and formulate nutrition action plans responsive to the local needs.
“We are very grateful to the National Nutrition Council for sending a team in our municipality”, said Dr. Ramos. According to her, the visit is a big help and is looking forward to work hand in hand with the NNC 7 to find solutions to Samboan’s nutrition concerns. ///NVS
