Carmen, Cebu – After the success of the first Mural Painting competition in Bais City, the National Nutrition Council 7 and the Media Information Network for Nutrition and Development 7 with the Municipal Nutrition Committee of Carmen, Cebu awarded this year’s winners for the First 1000 Days Mural Painting contest on 18 July 2016.
Held at the Municipal Gymnasium in Carmen, Cebu, about 40 students from 4 secondary schoolswho interpreted and conceptualized the First 1000 Days Mural together with about 50 others more attended the culminating activity. Present were students, teachers and coaches from Carmen National High School, Cantumog National High School, Cebu Academy, and Carmen Christian School along with the municipal officials and members of the Municipal Nutrition Committee of Carmen.
According to NNC 7’s Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Dr. Parolita A. Mission, the Mural Painting activity served as a good venue to convey the message of the First 1000 Days to the residents of Carmen, Cebu considering that the municipality ranked 6th in the Top 20 nutritionally-depressed municipalities in Central Visayas in 2015 based on the OPT Plus report. The place is also a strategic area for passengers going to and from North Cebu.
The executives of the municipality vowed to prioritize health and nutrition and reduce malnutrition in their locality."This is going to be a big challenge for the municipality but we will prioritize the provision of budget particularly for our young children. We will do our best to lessen the number of malnourished children in Carmen", reelected Municipal Councilor Baltazar B. Capuno said during the MNC meeting prior to the awarding ceremony.
Among the winners of the mural painting competition were the students from Cebu Academy with their vibrant and clear portrayal of the First 1000 Days. The school also won Social Media’s Most Favored painting with 1,240 likes and 514 shares. // NVS
