Danao City – Having attained the Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar award raises more the spirit of Ms. Mary Ann F. Reyes to continue with her battle against malnutrition in her barangay (Looc, Danao City), one child at a time.

Besting ten other Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) in the region, the Danao City BNS Association President has been described as having a personality as big as her passion and dedication for nutrition as well as having a notably bubbly personality and boundless energy.

Aside from the usual nutrition interventions implemented by the Barangay Nutrition Committee, Ms. Reyes, on her own initiative came up with a monitoring system for her malnourished children. She keeps a wall pocket chart per household and updates them regularly. Pockets are filled with IEC materials about the different aspects of nutrition; food security through home gardening, health and sanitation, and proper child rearing practices. Growth monitoring charts are also available per family to be updated every time she visits. These are all explained to the mothers/caregivers every monitoring schedule.

In her award acceptance speech, Ms. Reyes has moved nutrition worker hearts by stating her intent to continue nutrition service and that the award, along with its cash prize has strengthened further her resolve to end malnutrition in her barangay. //NGS.
