Cebu City- RA 8172 otherwise known as an “Act Promoting Salt Iodization Nationwide and for Related Purposes”, or commonly called “ASIN Law” was enacted in 1995 to drastically decrease Iodine Deficiency Disorder (IDD) through the National Salt Iodization Program (NSIP).

With IDD threatening the health of the people in Central Visayas, the Regional Bantay Asin Task Force (RBATF 7), a sub-group of the Regional Nutrition Committee, conducts wider information dissemination on IDD, its causes, impact to both physical and mental development, ways to prevent this deficiency and other related topics using social media.

Social media is increasingly being used as an information source, including data related to health and nutrition. Facebook has been the top source of news and information, according to the 2019 Social Weather Survey, which shows that one out of five Filipino adults use Facebook as a source of news.

Every Thursday of the week, the RBATF 7 secretariat will upload a social media graphic that relates to the salt iodization program on the official Facebook page of National Nutrition Council Region VII. These NSIP postings shall come from relevant and reliable sources to ensure that these pieces of information are firm and valid.

Sharing of the NSIP posts is highly encouraged especially to the RBATF 7 member agencies and stakeholders as well as sharing the posts in your individual Facebook timelines so that your friends and friends of your friends may be reached. // ND II Shaira Camille T. Labastida, RND
