buntis congress

Valencia, Negros Oriental – Twenty three (23) pregnant mothers from all over the municipality of Dauin, Negros Oriental joined this year’s Buntis Congress held on 02 September 2021. The event with the theme “Chada si Mama” is held in connection with the celebration of the town fiesta.

The local government unit of Dauin, through its Rural Health Unit (RHU), conceptualized this initiative to promote the package of health services a pregnant woman must receive to improve birth outcome. The Buntis Congress is part of the 15-month High Impact Breakthrough Strategies or commonly known as Hi5 of the Department of Health which aims to accelerate the reduction in maternal deaths, infant and under-five mortality, halt HIV/AIDS, and strengthen Service Delivery Networks.

To encourage healthy pregnancy among the mothers, the health officers provided prenatal consultations, immunizations, free maternal ultrasound, vitamins and mineral supplements, biochemical examinations, and maternity kit which includes adult and newborn diapers, thermometer, socks, and mittens, face towel, and hygiene kit. The nutrition team also provided flyers on 10 Kumainments, Pinggang Pinoy for pregnant women, and tips on proper breastfeeding.

The contestants showed off their talents and abilities and gave smart answers during the interview portion that demonstrated who is the most “chada” or nice Mama among them.

The pageant participants and the audience enjoyed the show while at the same time gained knowledge on safe motherhood, breastfeeding, immunization, family planning, and the importance of giving birth in accredited health facilities. The Buntis Congress 2021 was indeed an innovative way to advocate for healthy pregnancy, prevent maternal death and promote quality of life. // ND II Niña Estela Lindsay Romero, RND
