It’s almost the holiday season and what does that mean? It means that there would be lots and lots of eating and drinking to happen. Filipinos tend to splurge on food, drinks, and desserts this Christmas that could lead to many health problems or complications for those with existing chronic diseases.
Filipinos tend to serve and feast on unhealthy foods and drinks during these special occasions and those family members who have existing comorbidities also tend to turn a blind eye and indulge in unhealthy delicacies thus leading to the deterioration in their health which can lead to something more serious.
The importance of being nutritionally responsible this holiday could also start by teaching our family and our friends that we can enjoy delicious food without compromising our health. This is by knowing the limitations one can eat, and consciously knowing that eating too much is not friendly to the body.
One should prepare more vegetables, fruits, and salads at the dining table during these events. You could also come up with healthy menus and limit serving fried, fatty, salty, processed and foods that are high in sugar or salt. It is also good to remind our titos and cousins to drink moderately and stay sober throughout the holidays. It is also important to stay active and drink lots of water to keep hydrated. Are we ready to approach this holiday season with a healthy attitude? Remember, you are in control and maintain that restraint when temptation to indulge is there! // PNFP Cebu John Dale C.
