Cebu City - As the highest policy making and coordinating body for nutrition in the region, the Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) passes policies that are responsive to the region’s current nutrition situation. This affiliate body of the Regional Development Council coordinates the implementation of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) and the Regional Plan of Action for Nutrition (RPAN) 2017-2022.
Annually, the RNC identifies member agencies to be visited for Advocacy Talks with the Regional Directors or Heads of key national government agencies. Its technical working group would assist the RNC secretariat in making the advocacy meeting a success.
The advocacy visit hopes to appraise the Regional Directors and Heads of Agencies of the current nutrition situation of Central Visayas. According to DOST-FNRI during the 2019 National Nutrition Summit, “Stunting remains to be of high magnitude among under five years old children”. Thus, the member agency’s nutrition specific, nutrition sensitive and enabling programs included in the RPAN are the key nutrition interventions that would answer the prevailing malnutrition prevalence in the region.
With the combined efforts of the RNC member agencies and its secretariat, an upcoming Virtual RNC Advocacy Talk with new and select RNC members will be held on the 4th week of December 2021 via zoom video communications. The technical working group of the RNC are also encouraged to join the meeting to further elaborate their nutrition related programs and ensure that these NGAs and NGO-RNC members will be implementing development programs with nutrition objectives, considerations and components.
Together with the tangible efforts of the different member agencies in the region, let us link hands in this journey for our people to have improved access to quality nutrition and nutrition sensitive services. // ND II Shaira Camille T. Labastida, RND
