Cebu Province – The Super typhoon Odette has devastated many regions in the country including Central Visayas. The southern part of Cebu is one of the areas hardly hit. Few days after the devastation, the Regional Nutrition Cluster of Central Visayas went to these areas on 22-23 December 2021 to provide nutrition in emergency services after the cluster covered Cebu City, Lapu-lapu City, Mandaue City and City of Naga on 19 and 21 December 2021.

To cover more areas, the cluster was divided to two teams. The first team was led by ND II Shaira Camille T. Labastida of DOH CV CHD/NNC 7. With her were Health and Nutrition Consultant Retz Pol O. Pocaliong of the UNICEF, PNFPs Mary Bliss Joy P. Iguana and John Dale C. Maningo and NO I Christine April M. Lopez of NNC 7 and Juan Victor M. Filamor of DOH CV CHD/NNC 7, They visited Alcoy, Argao, Dalaguete, Minglanilla, San Fernando, and Sibonga.

Five days after the devastation where the water supply was affected, the displaced families especially children are at risk of water-borne diseases. They need safe drinking water, food and other life-saving essentials.

We at NNC continue to work with other partners on the ground and assist local governments in reaching more children, pregnant and lactating women to prevent the deterioration of their nutritional status and help these displaced families regain their life back again.
