Dumanjug, Cebu - The Municipality of Dumanjug, Cebu held its first episode of the Nutrition School on Air (NSOA) and Health Awareness Program on Radio on 16 November 2021. This is to maximize the existing radio station (DYCE Edge FM 92.9) in the municipality Despite the popularity of social media, radio is still widely held among the masses with no or limited access to the internet.
The team utilized the 10 NSOA modules containing the 10 Kumainments to deliver nutrition knowledge among Dumanjug families through radio. The ten messages of the 10 Kumainments is a simplified version of the Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos (NGF) developed by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute.
PHN/MNPC Ms. Vivian A. Manuba coordinated with Barangay Cogon where the FM station is located. Barangay Cogon will share the time slot provided by the station with the Rural Health Unit and Municipal Nutrition Committee of Dumanjug.
The first episode was anchored by DJ “Kuya MJ” Sir Ashton Jainar with NDP Evangelene Pagobo and ND II James Aaron Perez as discussants. They introduced the NSOA, its purpose and objectives before tackling the first lesson Kumainment Number 1 - “Kaon og nagkalain-laing pagkaon matag adlaw”. They also encouraged the listeners especially Dumanjugons to be vaccinated to achieve local herd immunity against the COVID-19 virus.
The Dumanjug NSOA and Health Awareness Program on Radio is aired live every Tuesday at 9:00am to 10:00am with replays at same time on Thursdays. The radio program is supported by Dumanjug’s Rural Health Unit, Municipal Nutrition Committee, Barangay Cogon officials and DYCE Edge FM management.
