Samboan, Cebu – Indeed, Christmas was merry for the fourteen (14) Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) of the municipality of Samboan, Cebu after they received an additional 300 pesos to their monthly honorarium. This was an effort made by the Municipal Nutrition Committee to recognize and pay off a bit the dedicated efforts of their BNSs in providing good nutrition services to the community.
The sudden increase of COVID-19 cases in the municipality has put a halt on the delivery of nutrition services to the community and placing the nutritional status of their children in danger and with these the LGU needs the full commitment of their Barangay Nutrition Scholars. The budget of the said incentive was taken from the Local Child Protection Council’s fund which was then approved by their MNC.
With the additional incentive, the BNSs are now more inspired to perform their responsibilities like active case finding of children with acute malnutrition and ensuring that all children are covered in the operation timbang plus to name a few.
A resource-challenged municipality being 5th class, the LGU hopes to sustain or even increase this incentive to continue to support the BNS program after realizing their critical role in ensuring good nutrition of the at-risk population especially in this time of the pandemic. // ND II Teresito M.
