BRUNCH

Cebu City – A not so common question that eludes a lot of people especially the ones that don’t typically eat breakfast but eat before lunch which is a meal often called “brunch”, is it a better alternative than eating 2 meals?

Consisting of food items derived from what we would normally eat during breakfast, and what we would typically eat during lunch, people would associate it as cutting calories from eating 1 meal. But what happens during that meal is people tend to overeat, underestimating the calories provided for that meal. Underneath all that type of a meal is you are also losing essential nutrients which was supposed to be from 2 meals.

Essentially eating brunch gives you ample time for your next meal which in turn gets you hungrier, resulting in craving for more unhealthy food choices which affects your window of eating healthily. And that process just causes you to gain more weight or will make it harder for you to lose weight. Nutrition experts would not recommend the eating of brunch for individuals with existing health problems. The practice may worsen their health condition.

Every morning is a chance for you to give yourself room for thought of whether you should skip breakfast because skipping it might be costly for your overall health. It is important to follow regular mealtimes and incorporating the technique of MOVABA (moderation, variety, & balance) in every meal. When in doubt, always see a Registered Nutritionist-Dietitian for guidance. // NO I Gab Flores, RND
