Cebu City – It’s been almost three months since the aftermath of Typhoon Odette rocked the province of Cebu, four other provinces of Visayas, Surigao del Norte and Dinagat islands of Mindanao, and in the island of Palawan in Luzon on 19 December 2021. A lot of establishments including NNC’s Nutriskwela Community Radio Network Programs (NCRNP) were greatly affected. The operations and functionality of these radio stations were hampered as antennas, transmitters and office structures were destroyed. Since then, recovery efforts have been made and the Nutriskwela Radio Stations are slowly getting up and made efforts to be back in the airwaves to continue its mission of disseminating correct, current, and relevant nutrition and developmental information to their captive audiences.
In Central Visayas, NNC 7 NIE team monitored these NCRNP to assess their situation and provide assistance. One of the most recent monitoring that have been done was with Radyo Kalampusan in the geographically isolated area of San Francisco, Camotes. Cebu. The team was composed of NO II Norre Jean De los Santos, NO I Christine Lopez, and NO I Gab Flores all of whom proceeded to get update regarding the status of the radio station and its personnel.
The importance of checking in with the stations every now and then is that it helps assess the needs and problems of the stations, indirectly benefiting by improving the relationship, the cooperation, and the productivity of both parties. Reaching out to the station stakeholders sets off the atmosphere of how much NNC gives support to the Nutriskwela radio stations and build rapport with the staff for them to turn in to NNC for questions and assistance, as needed.
Since the Nutriskwela stations have an obligation to share current, accurate and relevant nutrition information every time they broadcast, periodic checking and dialogue with them ensures the delivery of quality content of the information disseminated. The activity also provides opportunity to share updates on the NCRNP and remind the program personnel on the editorial policies especially in this election season.
