Komikserye

Cebu City – “Stunting is not hereditary and it can be addressed through the First 1000 Days.” This key message is part of the anchor of the region’s new social media campaign for 2022 dubbed “Ang Gahum sa First 1000 Days: Alang sa himsog, tag-as ug utokan nga kabataan” (The Power of the First 1000 Days: For healthier, taller and brilliant children).

The First 1000 Days Komik Serye is a 15-episode series and is part of the 2022 social media strategies of the National Nutrition Council 7 and the Media Information Network for Nutrition and Development 7 (MIND 7).

The story revolves around the life of new parents Lorna and Boyet as they learn the importance of proper nutrition during the First 1000 Days. The story will also feature the services offered under the First 100 Days—from maternal health, exclusive breastfeeding, appropriate complementary feeding, as well as other health and nutrition services that every Filipino family can avail in their respective local health units or barangay health centers.

“The serye will primarily feature the importance of the First 1000 Days. This is a good venue for first-time parents to learn the importance of proper nutrition for children. The campaign will also serve as a venue for other parents to share their personal experiences on child-rearing,” said Dr. Parolita A. Mission, NNC Region 7 Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator.

According to Dr. Mission, common misconceptions on stunting, breastfeeding, and complementary feeding will be also tackled along with the roles of each member of the family throughout the episodes.

The First 1000 Days begin from pregnancy until the child reaches two years old. It is considered the golden window of opportunity and is very crucial in a child’s life because this is the period where key health, nutrition, early education, and related services should be delivered to ensure the optimum physical and mental development of a child.

Catch the First 1000 Days Nutri Komiks on NNC 7’s official Facebook Page every Saturday. We invite you to share your personal experiences there, too. Together, we can fight malnutrition and stunting in children. // NVS
