Regional Nutrition Committee approves 2 Resolutions Related to Sun Network, Milk Code

1 Photo Support RNC Resolutions Approved

Cebu City – The Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) successfully convened on February 22, 2022, via Zoom with a total of 27 participants coming from the different member-agencies and local government units (LGUs) of the committee.

The committee was able to approve two RNC resolutions: RNC Resolution No. 022-01, also known as Institutionalizing the Sub-Committees of the SUN Network in the Region, and RNC Resolution No. 022-02, also known as Revitalizing Executive Order 51 or Milk Code Implementation in the Region and Developing a Regional Monitoring Mechanism for its Compliance. These resolutions will serve as the basis for the member agencies’ strict implementation of each request per resolution.

RNC Resolution No. 022-01 mandates that RNC members will

  • ensure that this resolution is fully implemented among the SUN networks by the provision of technical assistance in the implementation of nutrition-sensitive and specific programs, projects, and activities, and
  • designate NDAP Cebu Chapter and PNA Cebu Chapter for SUN Academe, DOLE 7, and DTI 7 for SUN Business and PAN Cebu Chapter, DSWD VII, and DA 7 for SUN CSA, to monitor compliance of this resolution.

Furthermore, RNC Resolution No. 022-02 mandates that

  • RNC will develop a mechanism for the revitalization of the implementation of the Milk Code;
  • RNC will create a Regional Monitoring Team led by the Department of Health (DOH) with the assistance from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and implement procedures to monitor the said resolution;
  • International donations from International Charitable Organizations must seek clearance from the Bureau of Customs (BOC) and comply with the provisions of EO 51; and
  • DOH must enforce sanctions mandated in the EO once violators have been identified. Follow-through actions must be implemented between the concerned agency, LGU, and donor.

The resolutions were approved upon the motion of Ms. Gwennifyn Pauline A. Vaquilar of DILG 7 and Mr. Jarvis S. Prochina of PAN Cebu Chapter. Once the signed RNC resolutions will be available, the RNC secretariat will coordinate with the Regional Social Development Committee (RSDC) for further actions to be done. // ND II Labastida
