Cebu CityThe role of women in nutrition was highlighted during the National Women’s Month of the Department of Agrarian Reform Region VII. Nutrition Officer I, Mr. Gab Flores of the Nutrition, Information and Education Team of NNC 7 shared the topic focusing on the importance of women in all life stages in the battle for good nutrition. The responsibilities of women in nurturing the family thru proper nutrition was also elaborated during the talk.

Key points to remember are:

  • Women/Mothers are role models and are powerful figures to promote the first 1000 days not just for the baby but for the future of the family,
  • Women/Mothers are the initiators in establishing a good eating habit, healthy food preferences, and the practice of good dietary decisions for the family, and
  • Women/Mothers can spearhead in keeping the family healthy and fit.

The Pinggang Pinoy, a nutrition tool for preparing healthy food on a per meal basis was also introduced to the DAR employees. This visual representation of what a person should consume on a per meal basis is a plate-based food guide that features the right proportion of food that contains the right nutrients needed by the body of an average DAR employee. The speaker and the entire NNC 7 team are hopeful that DAR employees will apply all the learnings they got from the forum. // NO I Gab Flores, RND
