Cebu Province - As cases of COVID-19 infection decreases, restriction is slowly lessening, social gatherings are just around the corner because of political rally. Though the rate of infection today is low, we should not let our guard down because our region doesn’t reach the herd immunity yet.

As individual we need to continue to strengthen our immune system by eating food that can nourish our body. We know that consuming nutritious food can help maintain good health, so let us be reminded or be aware of our Ten Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos.

These nutritional guidelines are primary recommendations to promote good health through proper nutrition including advice on consumption of foods for which there are public health concerns. The guidelines also serve as tool for nutrition education, and promotion of desirable dietary and nutrition habits of every Juan and Juana.

Let us focus on the first guideline, Eat a variety of foods every day. Our body needs different kind of nutrients in order to function well, these nutrients can be supplied by a variety of foods that we consume. Therefore, no single food can provide all the nutrients we need. We have energy- giving foods like rice, bread, pasta and many others, body building foods like fish, egg, chicken, beef, beans and many others, and body-regulating food like fruits and vegetables.

A variety of nutritious food is available in our area so we should practice eating different kind of food rather than eating only our favorite or food available in fast food establishment. This way we will learn to eat any kind of food that are truly beneficial to our body.
