Valencia, Negros Oriental - Women including pregnant and lactating mothers of Balayagmanok in this municipality known as “Little Baguio” of the Visayas attended a forum that covered Magna Carta of Women, Gender Equality, RA 9262, otherwise known as the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Law (“VAWC”), Pinggang Pinoy for Adults, Pregnant & Lactating and for Elderly.
The forum which was held on 14 March 2022 at Barangay Balayagmanok Covered Court was attended by 5 pregnant women, 40 lactating mothers, and 20 women of reproductive health, a total of 65 participants. The activity was part of the National Women's Month Celebration (NWMC) of the municipality.
The 6th NWMC event of this first-class municipality also included a cooking demonstration on how to prepare a healthy and affordable meal. The sample recipes presented were sourced from the National Nutrition Council Region VII facebook page which include sauteed ampalaya and malunggay with egg and Mungo curry.
The program culminated with a Zumba dance and other cardio fitness activities participated by the members of the Barangay Nutrition Committee. With the activity initiated, the Balayagmanok BNC hopes that women will continue to realize their important role in society especially in caring for their children in the critical First 1000 Days of their lives. // ND II Nina Estela Lindsay Romero, RND
