SUN new members

Cebu City – The National Nutrition Council Region VII is pleased to welcome all the participants of the SUN Network during the SUN sub-national level meetings held on 27 April 2022 at Performing Arts Lab, Cebu Doctors’ University, Cebu City. It has been noted that the Central Visayas Region is the first region in the country to organize the SUN network which is composed of SUN Academe, SUN Business, and SUN Civil Society Alliance. The members of the SUN movement elected chairperson per network and shared their programs, projects, and activities that may contribute to the improvement of the nutrition landscape in the region.

As the network was currently organized, the NNC 7 and the Regional Nutrition Committee aim to expand its reach and invite new members to be part of the Network. Several business sectors, universities, and private organizations responded to this call and joined the said meeting.

To date, the SUN Academe is chaired by Prof Jen H. Genove of Siliman University with new members including Food Safety and Hygiene Academy of the Philippines, Magsaysay Center for Hospitality and Culinary Arts, Negros Oriental State University, and University of San Jose Recoletos – School of Allied Medical Sciences. These were added to the roster originally composed of the Nutrition and Dietetics Departments of Cebu Doctors’ University and the University of San Carlos and all the colleges of nursing based in Cebu.

On the other hand, the SUN Business with newly elected chair Mr. Jonel A. Ucab of the Green Pantry also welcomed the new members who joined the group comprising of Cebu Chamber of Commerce, Dietwise Corporation, Esteems Industries, Gracias Sa Kusina, Jojies Bakeshop, Nobler Marketing, PRT Dynasty Clinic, San Jose Bakeshop, and Yohbells Marketing in addition to Cebu Network for Nutrition Promotion, Geraldez General Services, Melt Magic, Inc., and Saint Baked Delights.

Whereas the SUN Civil Society Alliance chaired by Mr. Rembert P. Artigo of the Cebu Council of Rotaract Clubs District 3860 was also joined by several new partners such as the Adventist Community Services of Capitol Center SDA Church, Lamac Foundation, Inc., LDS Charities, Mabuhay Deseret Foundation, Rise and Rebuild International Foundation, in supplementing Glory Reborn, Juan I. King Foundation, NORFIL Foundation, and Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. - Dolores Aboitiz Children's Fund.

The elected chairs and vice-chairs will join the Regional Nutrition Committee in its upcoming activities to ensure greater engagement and collaboration with the new partners as they engage, inspire, and invest in improved nutrition situations in Central Visayas.
