Valencia, Bohol - The Municipal Nutrition Committee of Valencia trained their nutrition workers on Idol Ko Si Nanay. The activity was held on 28-30 March 2022 at the ABC Hall and the covered court of the Technical Vocational High School of the municipality, respectively.
Idol Ko Si Nanay Learning Sessions is one of the Early Childhood Care and Development - First 1000 Days Program (ECCD-F1KD) services to complement the Tutok Kainan Supplementation Program. Its key component is the conduct of nutrition education for women planning to get pregnant, pregnant, and lactating women to improve infant and young child feeding practices of participants.
The training that covered nine modules in 25 sessions was facilitated by the Municipal Nutrition Program Coordinator Mr. Leandro Rio J. Cagatin assisted by the Provincial Nutritionists and the Human Resource for Health in Nutrition assigned to the municipality. This was attended by 89 participants composed of Barangay Nutrition Scholars, Barangay Health Workers, midwives, nurses, and other municipal health office staff. Noting the need to fully prepare the nutrition workers to conduct the roll-out training and perform related functions, the Municipal Nutrition Action Officer also Mr. Leandro Rio J. Cagatin expanded the training program and included an orientation on BNAP planning and an overview of the MELLPI Pro.
After the training program, the nutrition workers will conduct a roll out training to their barangays and implement the ECCD F1KD program. The First 1000 days of a child is the most crucial period for the child and served as the golden window of opportunity for nutrition interventions to be given to both the mother and the child for their overall development.
With the capacity building activity completed, the nutrition workers now have the responsibility to conduct Idol Ko Si Nanay sessions in their barangays which will be performed in the third quarter of the year in celebration of National Nutrition Month in July and Breastfeeding Month in August. // ND II Marcel John J.
