Cebu City – Highlighting the urgent need to get back to business as the world adapts to the new normal, the National Nutrition Council Region VII (NNC 7) calls on partners and stakeholders for greater engagement in the 48th Nutrition Month (NM) Celebration. Hence, all nutrition stakeholders in the region are invited to a virtual activity dubbed “48th Nutrition Month Sales Conference” on 07 June 2022 at 8:30 AM via NNC 7 Facebook page at https://www.facebook.cm/nncrvii.
Organized annually to garner support and participation for the campaign for good nutrition, this year’s theme revolves around the theme “New Normal Na Nutrisyon, Sama-Samang Gawan Ng Solusyon!” where partners and stakeholders are not only urged to take part in just the nutrition month celebration but calls for strengthened nutrition interventions and solidarity towards nutrition improvement as the country shifts towards living with the COVID-19 virus.
While the nutrition situation in Central Visayas has stabilized in the first part of 2021, Typhoon Odette in the latter part of the year has exacerbated food insecurity and further deteriorated the COVID-19 weakened health and nutrition services as seen by the increase in the number of stunted children in the 2021 Operation Timbang Plus (OPT Plus) results from 60,819 into 72,179.
Further, incidences of overweight and obesity is also plaguing the community due to the change in lifestyle and decreased mobility and opportunities for physical activities. Along with the spread of fad diets and nutrition misinformation, many are left battling different forms of malnutrition.
Focusing on building resiliency, the Sales Conference is highlighted by a panel discussion where solutions and steps forward will be discussed by a panel of experts including Dir. Fayette C. Riñen of PIA 7, Dr. Melquiades B. Ibarra of DA 7, and Mr. Fredric Carl L. Te of DOH CV CHD where will talk about multi-sectoral efforts in the new normal specifically on information dissemination, food security, and provision of health and nutrition services in the new normal.
NNC 7 is also set to present this year’s Nutrition Month Plan and options for participation so that more people could partake in the month-long activities. Further, as practiced in Central Visayas, the Nutrition Month Prayer and Pledge is set to be unveiled too in said activity.
