Bindoy, Negros Oriental - After the BNS training held last March this year, the newly hired Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) of this municipality were oriented on the Pabasa sa Nutrisyon, Idol ko si Nanay, and trained on how to monitor wasted and severely wasted children. The activity was held on 24 May 2022 at Domolog Convention Hall, Domolog Public Market, Bindoy,Negros Oriental. The BNSs also had the chance to experience the games of each module aside from the discussions.
NDP and Point-person for Nutrition, Ms. June Teves with NDDP Ms. Jhianne Mae Nicole Tugaoen and Negros Oriental IMO, Ms. Lyneth Anne Amahit facilitated the sessions.
Pabasa sa Nutrisyon is a 10-week course that gathers mothers and caregivers where they informally discuss health and nutrition topics. The peer-to-peer sessions encourage the attendees to apply their learnings to their respective families. Topics include the benefits of breastfeeding, identifying vitamin deficiencies and what constitutes a balanced diet, among others. Idol ko si Nanay on the other hand are learning sessions developed by NNC that contains modules on responsive caregiving, complementary feeding, and food demonstration. Group sessions are considered in this module.
With the BNSs fully capacitated on how to conduct nutrition education classes using the Pabasa sa Nutrisyon (PSN) and Idol ko si Nanay modules, they are expected to conduct parent’s or mother’s classes to their respective barangays and help decrease malnutrition in their areas by educating the parents and/or caregivers through these learning sessions. // ND II Jhianne Mae Nicole C.
