2022 Toledo CityToledo City - The Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team composed of PAN Cebu Chapter Ms. Piladelfa S. Gaviola, NEDA Ms. Kristine S. Jocson, FeBaNuSA 7, Inc. Ms. Evangeline S. Cardenas, CDU ND Alumni Mr. Noah Vincent D. Gallo, DOH/NNC ND II James Aaron S. Perez, and RNPC Dr. Parolita A. Mission visited the mining city of Cebu - Toledo City for the annual MELLPI Pro.

The group after being briefly welcomed by CNPC Belinda Cavan and other members of the CNC went straight to the coastal barangay, Barangay Cabitoonan where they were greeted by Brgy Captain Gerardo M. Lazarte. The team appreciated the barangay’s support in their local nutrition programs. After monitoring, the team then went through the roads of Atlas Mining Corporation to reach the geographically isolated and disadvantaged area, Barangay Biga. The team then evaluated the barangay’s nutrition program, the RNET recommended to Brgy Captain Pedro H. Sepada Jr. as BNC Chair to tap and partner with the Atlas Mining Corp for additional resources. When the team finished their visit in Barangay Biga, they then went to another GIDA area, Barangay Loay overlooking the famous Biga Pit. Ms. Piladelfa S. Gaviola of PAN Cebu Chapter appreciated the barangay’s effort and implementation of nutrition activities. The team concluded their barangay visits and was grateful for the City Nutrition Committee thru CHO Dr. Che Bautista, CNPC Cavan, and the city nutrition office admin and staff for accompanying them throughout the barangay visits.

On the second day, the RNET did a desk review of City Nutrition Committee looking into 2021 performance. The team also evaluated CNAO Dr. Bonito Zanoria and CNPC Belinda Cavan. The team then presented their findings to the members of the City Nutrition Committee at the Ranch Resort Meeting Hall, Toledo City. Ms. Gaviola appreciated the City’s effort on having a Mobile Kitchen which made a big impact on nutrition mobilization during emergencies especially when the recent Typhoon Odette hit the city. The CNC was also praised for providing NutriJoy Bun targeting the city’s malnourished children specially to address stunting. RNPC Dr. Mission then congratulated and recognized the CNC’s consistent effort to deliver nutrition services despite the pandemic and typhoon that devastated last year. She further noted and acknowledged the CNC for providing full nutrition services to all 38 barangays including GIDA barangays. She mentioned that these achievements are but result of a strong advocacy effort done by CNAO Dr. Zanoria, CNPC Ms. Cavan and the entire CNC as shown in the support of barangay officials in the nutrition program. The mining town of Pueblo Hinulawan (Toledo City’s old name) committed to the RNET members to give a stronger focus on their nutrition programs to enable them to recapture the Green Banner award which they garnered in the past.
