Larena nutrition heroes

Siquijor Province - The Larena Local Government Unit of Siquijor Province conducted an LGU-funded Barangay Nutrition Scholar refresher course on 25 April 2022. The training was a response to one of the recommendations of the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) during the recently concluded 2022 MELLPI Pro of the municipality.

Provincial Nutrition Program Coordinator Pamela Ida Dominguez, ND II Mary Grace E. Adolfo of DOH CV CHD, and former NDP Nutrition Point Person Louella K. Ruiz served as trainers for the one-day training. Municipal Health Officer Dr. Susan Jojie Villa gave her welcome address and expressed her utmost gratitude to the 23 Barangay Nutrition Scholars’ continuous support in implementing the nutrition program at the barangay level.

Some of the responsibilities and duties of the BNS as discussed during the training are: delivering nutrition services such as OPT Plus, exclusive breastfeeding campaign, supplementary feeding monitoring; food products such as community and backyard gardening monitoring; involvement in the health services such as environmental sanitation, family planning, pregnancy tracking, and maternal health.

The activity with the objective of capacitating the frontline nutrition workers was made possible through the support and efforts of the Municipal Nutrition Committee led by MNAO Jorge Arcaya and Mrs. Louella K. Ruiz. Indeed, providing capacity training to community nutrition implementers is crucial in realizing the importance of investing in nutrition and providing quality nutrition services to the community.  // ND II Gracey E.
