Cebu City - NNC Region VII enthusiastically joined the celebration of the National Nutrition Council’s 48th Founding Anniversary on 24 June 2022 with a theme “NNC @48! stronger and better together”

Presidential Decree No. 491 also known as Nutrition Act of the Philippines was promulgated and put into order the creation of the National Nutrition Council (NNC) as the highest policy making and coordinating body on nutrition in the country. NNC is composed of a governing board that is chaired by the Secretary of Health and the NNC Secretariat as its executive arm. The governing board of NNC composes of 10 government organizations and three representatives from the private sector.

The 48th Anniversary celebration started with a mass that was presided by Rev Fr. Marjayol L. Delfin, Chaplain service of the office of the Naval Chief Chaplain. In his homily, Fr. Delfin shared two anecdote stories that encourages the NNC with togetherness working in building the nation’s nutrition is not impossible in achieving the 2040 goal to have a prosperous, predominantly middle-class society where no one is poor, and people enjoy long and healthy nutritious lives.

During the celebration, the conferment of service awards was also given to the employees for their loyal service in the agency. An award was given to Dr. Parolita A. Mission, RNPC of NNC Region VII for her 20 years of dedicated and satisfactory service to the NNC particularly in providing leadership, demonstrating commitment, resilience, and ability to beat the odds in every situation in the performance of her duties which ultimately redounds to the nutrition improvement if Region VII, the citation said. The award was presented by Dr. Azucena M. Dayanghirang, MCH, CESO III Assistant Secretary and Executive Director of NNC with Ms. Rita D. Papey, Deputy Executive Director for Technical Services and Atty. Faydah M. Dumarpa, Deputy Executive Director of Admin and Finance.

The celebration ended with the launching of the NNC’s official hymn that was composed by Romeo Dongeto who is a songwriter-performer who also composed “panapanahon” which was sang by Noel Cabangon. The NNC hymn was then sang by Ms. Donna Gift Ricafrente, Tawag ng Tanghalan Season 4 grand champion. The song video showcased NNC through the years, its regional offices, and the central office that echoed “Nutrition sapat, para sa lahat”.

A/Sec and NNC Executive Director Dr. Azucena M. Dayanghirang, in her inspirational message urged the employees to continue their passion and commitment in fulfilling the mandate of NNC and mentioned that “together we can make a difference and turn nutrisyong sapat para sa lahat a reality”. ED Dayanghirang also encouraged the employees to carry on in continually making the NNC torch burning in the next 48th years and beyond and continue to fight for the improvement of the nutritional wellbeing of all Filipinos.

The NNC 7 personnel were ecstatic to celebrate this momentous event with the commitment to meet the challenge of fighting malnutrition in the Central Visayas region.
