New Normal Services

Cebu City – It's out with the old and in with the new for nutrition services as the National Nutrition Council embraces the new normal in its 48th Nutrition Month Celebration with the hashtag #NewtritionMonth2022

Focusing on the theme “New Normal na Nutrisyon, Sama-samang Gawan ng Solusyon!”, the 2022 Nutrition Month emphasizes the importance of nutrition in building resilience and recovery from the pandemic, the National Nutrition Council hopes to come into agreement with partners and stakeholders on key actions to build back better the design, delivery, and scale-up of nutrition interventions.

The Central Visayas Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) and its technical working group are set to launch this year’s Nutrition Month showcasing new normal services that were tweaked from existing nutrition programs to cope with the changes brought about by living with COVID-19 as new normal.

While nutrition has always been a major concern in the past, the pandemic and the current economic unrest have only exacerbated the causes of hunger and malnutrition which needs immediate multi-sectoral attention.

In Central Visayas, efforts of the nutrition partners and stakeholders have already prevented the increase of malnutrition in 2021, however, the magnitude of malnourished, especially among children below five is still of concern with the 2021 Operation Timbang Plus reporting 72,179 children as chronically malnourished or stunted and 17,884 acutely malnourished or wasted. On the other hand, 23,441 children were reported to be overweight according to the same document.

This nutrition situation has implications on future human resource productivity and must be addressed as soon as possible if we want Central Visayas to prosper, said new normal programs include a strengthened food security scheme, better calorie and nutrient intake via dietary supplementation, reliable nutrition information via official social media accounts, adoption of a healthy lifestyle, and other nutrition enabling activities.

In an effort to signify the commitment of the members of the RNC and to entice the community to participate in health and nutrition-related interventions, the RNC will be setting up a booth area during the Regional Nutrition Month Launching scheduled on 01 July 2022 at SM City Consolacion, Consolacion, Cebu starting 1:30 PM.

The event will be broadcasted online via the NNC 7’s facebook page.//NGS
